Steve Lanza is running to reclaim his seat on the Chabot-Las Positas Community College District Board of Trustees for Area 7, which serves Livermore, areas of east Dublin and southeast San Ramon.
In a statement announcing his candidacy, Lanza said he intends to combine his decades of educational and corporate experiences and apply them to another term on the college district board.
“As a trustee of the CLPCCD, my priorities will be strong fiscal management of the district during a time of significant change, accelerating our ability to prepare our students for the opportunities available and drive increased partnerships with the many employers in our region,” Lanza said in the announcement.
He has served on the board since 2022 and is also currently a member of the Las Positas College Foundation.
Lanza is among three CLPCCD incumbents to file nomination papers to run for reelection. Area 1 Trustee Luis Reynoso and Area 4 Trustee Maria Heredia have both completed their filings as of this week. So far, there are no challengers listed for any of the three seats, according to the Alameda County Registrar of Voters website.
With a background in education, Lanza has instructed graduate MBA business courses at Golden Gate University and the University of San Francisco and undergraduate courses at the community college level.
He prioritized time for supporting education as an advisor or trustee, even while he ran an advisory business and worked a corporate career, he said.
As vice president of Lam Research, a global Fortune 300 semiconductor equipment provider, he was part of the company’s Global Leadership Team that increased annual sales to over $10 billion and grew the company 400%.
He also served as board chair of the Innovation Tri-Valley Leadership Group, where he led a collaborative effort for the Innovation Tri-Valley 2040 Vision Plan, which promotes a green environment and green economy in the area, he said. At ITV, Lanza co-led the Education and Workforce Development Committee, which built bridges between regional educational institutions and the private sector.
“My time on the Board of Trustees, along with twenty years of service as a college educator and advisor, combined with twenty years of experience as a technology executive delivering strategies in challenging economic times, prepared me to serve CLPCCD and our community,” Lanza said.
