The Pleasanton Unified School District Board of Trustees has a relatively light agenda with only three main action items Thursday evening.
One of those action items will be a vote on maintaining the district’s current independent financial auditor, Cossolias Wilson Dominguez Leavitt (CWDL).
According to the Aug. 27 staff report, PUSD currently contracts with CWDL for “required independent financial auditing services.” The district previously selected the San Diego-based firm as its independent auditor in the second half of 2024 — that three-year contract covered the district during the 2023-24, 2024-25 and 2025-26 school years.
As the contract came to an end this year, the district posted a request for proposals to its website and reached out to 10 different firms listed in the state controller’s office Certified Public Accountant list. The proposal seeks to cover the district for the next three years, including this current one.
“The proposal is to cover audits for the next three years … for the annual independent audit, along with an audit of the General Obligation Bond (GOB), Measure I-1 and Measure I, and the California State Preschool Program (CSPP) Audits,” according to staff.
After receiving responses from six firms and narrowing the list down to three, staff are now recommending the board maintain CWDL as its financial auditor.
According to the staff report, the contract stipulates that the district will pay CWDL $66,000 the first year, $67,500 the second year and $70,000 for the third year.

In other business
* The board will also be discussing and voting on a $70,650 contract between the district and Amplify Education, a curriculum and assessment company, for NWEA MAP Growth assessments for the 2026-27 school year.
NWEA, according to its website, is an organization that provides “research-based assessments” for entities like school districts.
“Restoring the MAP Growth reading and math assessment system for PUSD students in grades 3 through 8 (administered in fall, winter, and spring) provides a critical, comprehensive universal tool to measure academic progress throughout the school year based on state standards,” staff noted in the Aug. 27 agenda report.
“Returning to this common formative assessment restores the district’s only unified metric for timely, actionable growth data without increasing the overall testing burden on students,” the report continued. “Implementing MAP for one additional year provides stability while the district collaborates with teachers to determine the best long-term assessment solution.”
* Superintendent Maurice Ghysels will present his goals for the 2026-27 school year, according to the agenda report.Â
While there are no additional materials listed in the agenda report to signal what his specific goals will be, staff state that his goals will be aligned with and support PUSD’s “newly adopted Strategic Directions”.
* Following the meeting open to the public, the board will hold a closed session meeting where they will discuss PUSD’s superintendent position. Ghysels’ contract is set to end next June.
