A 30-year-old Livermore man was arrested for allegedly crashing his car into martial arts studio Elite Taekwondo Academy while drunk early Wednesday morning.
Upon partially entering the building located at 53 Wright Brothers Ave., the vehicle shattered a 12-foot-by-10-foot window, according to the Livermore Police Department. The driver remained at the scene and failed field sobriety tests, police said.
No one was present in the studio at the time of the incident, business owner Tharma Karunamoorthy said.
Since the damage, Karunamoorthy has paused instruction while the studio is being restored.
As for the recent outpour of community support, Karunamoorthy said he’s very thankful. He also intends to use the incident as a teaching lesson regarding the dangers of drunk driving.
