Emergency prep
With September being National Preparedness Month, the city of Pleasanton’s Emergency Management Division is holding a community workshop Tuesday to help residents prepare for natural disasters and other emergencies.
City workers will provide residents with information on how they can create an emergency plan for their families, how to stay informed through emergency alerts and about specific hazards in the Tri-Valley.
“Over 6,000 natural disasters happen yearly around the world,” according to a city press release. “The city of Pleasanton wants to help you, and your family get prepared.”
Attendees will also receive a free emergency guide. The community workshop is set to take place from 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 23) in the Pleasanton City Council Chambers.
International mixer
Members of the international community are invited to attend a community mixer at Aracely’s Lounge in Danville on Wednesday (Sept. 24) to commemorate the launch of the International People of the Bay Area (IPBA), a new community group that aims to bring people across multiple cultures together.
“International People of the Bay Area connects me with a community that celebrates diversity, culture and shared experiences,” co-founder Adee Parnes stated in a press release. “For me, it’s about belonging to a space where differences are embraced and where we grow by learning from one another’s stories and perspectives.”
The event will provide an opportunity for international residents, local community leaders and others to share stories and foster connections, according to the press release.
Hotels project
The city of Dublin will be hosting two meetings next week to discuss a proposed development application for the construction of two, four-story hotels and a 10,178-square-foot restaurant and retail building in Dublin.
Both meetings, scheduled for Wednesday (Sept. 24) at 6 p.m. and Thursday (Sept. 25) at 7 p.m., will provide residents with information regarding the proposed project that seeks to develop the two hotels — one Tru and one Element hotel — across 5.75 acres at 3800 Kaiser Road. The project proposes each hotel containing over 100 rooms, 310 parking stalls and other site improvements on top of the restaurant and retail building.
The meetings will both be held remotely via Zoom — links for both can be found at dublin.ca.gov.
Parent workshop
A former Las Positas College health professor, who has since turned to coaching parents and kids about overall health, will be hosting a workshop next Wednesday for parents who might need help with several issues concerning their children.
Siah Fried, a former a health, women’s health and nutrition professor at LPC, will be leading four breakout sessions at next week’s event where she will give parents practical strategies and confidence on how to deal with pre-teen and young adults dealing with early signs of eating disorders; stress and anxiety; communicating with parents; and social media challenges.
“As a parent coach and health educator, I guide families with tools, checklists and real-world advice to feel prepared and supported,” Fried said.
The event will take place at Richard Lumber, in their new backyard showroom, on Wednesday (Sept. 24) starting at 6:30 p.m. For more information and to sign up for the class, visit www.siahfriedcoach.com.
