Steven Dunbar claimed victory in the three-person race for Livermore City Council District 3 with a 10% lead while District 4 leader Kristie Wang — who is up by nearly 20% — held off on calling the contest, following an updated tally from election officials on Monday afternoon.

Still remaining are an estimated 187,135 uncounted ballots in Alameda County, representing about 28% of the total ballots cast, according to the California Secretary of State.

In District 3, Dunbar has collected 41.20% of the votes (3,327) while Jeff Kaskey is at 31.05% (2,507).

By Tuesday, Dunbar — a city planning commissioner — was ready to declare himself the winner.

“I am very grateful to have this opportunity to serve, and I am excited to represent Livermore,” Dunbar told Livermore Vine. “I am looking forward to working together with the community, staff, and other councilmembers to find solutions and build consensus.”

Meanwhile, Kaksey has not officially conceded the election yet.

“It is frustrating how long it is taking Alameda County (and most of California, to be fair) to count the votes,” Kaskey said.

Polling in last is David Farley with 27.75% of the votes (2,241). Farley did not respond for comment on the updated tallies, as of Wednesday morning.

In District 4, Wang holds 59.97% of the votes (4,967) to Tom Soules’ 40.03% (3,316). For Wang, the race is still undetermined.

“I’m still waiting for final results, like everyone else,” said Wang, a Livermore school board trustee running to make the jump to City Council.

But at this point, Soules is ready to concede the election. “I congratulate Kristie as it looks like she will win the vote,” he said.
