The owner of Steven Kent Winery is set to open his family’s home garden downtown Livermore in the coming weeks to serve as a permanent outdoor wine lounge.

Unlike the winery’s tasting room on Vasco Road, proprietor Steven Kent Mirassou and his wife Beth Mirassou aim for Steven Kent on 2nd to be an intimate gathering space where guests can sip on small lot wines from the winery and walk away with a bottle.

In addition to outdoor seating to host approximately 20 people at a time, the Mirassou family is also set to open their home to private, indoor events.

“We didn’t want to recreate the experience people can already get at our current tasting room,” Steven Kent Mirassou told Livermore Vine. “We wanted this to be more about people being able to spend time with their friends and loved ones in a really beautiful environment and be able to have education about wine if they wanted it.”

Unique to the lounge at the corner of Second and McLeod streets, a short menu of approximately five or six beverages will include debut wines and experimentals that cannot be found at the Steven Kent Winery’s larger location.

In addition to drinks, Mirassou plans to roll out small bites in the new year with the occasional guest speaker.

Prior to the launch of Steven Kent on 2nd, the Mirassous lived across the street from the forthcoming wine lounge.

Everyday, the couple noticed passersby en route to downtown Livermore, he said.

Upon seeing the home of the forthcoming wine lounge become available as a residential and commercial space, the two jumped on the opportunity and moved into the house about a year ago.

“We are looking at Steven Kent on 2nd’s wine lounge to be the gateway to downtown,” Mirassou said.

Welcoming guests into their garden or house offers a unique experience to visitors, Mirassou said. But he and his wife are accustomed to the overlap between work and life, he added.

“We’re in the wine business 365, 24/7 anyways,” he said.

Since the couple sit on their patio everyday, often enjoying a glass of wine together, opening their home seemed like the perfect way to offer the same experience to guests and further the winery’s mission in hospitality, he explained.

“We consider ourselves hospitality professionals before we’re winemakers,” Mirassou said. “Our vehicle for conveying the desire to take care of people is wine.”

“You’re coming to our house, you’re coming to our wine lounge to be taken care of,” he added.

The lounge is expected to open intermittently during early December and establish permanent hours in the new year.
