Fremont Bank Foundation, a philanthropic arm of Pleasanton’s and the Bay Area’s Fremont Bank, has chosen to support 18 local nonprofits that serve food or distribute food baskets year-round with financial grants to help them provide extra food and basic necessities to local low-income residents and families.

“We are grateful for the work these nonprofit organizations perform in our communities all year,” said Hattie Hyman Hughes, president of Fremont Bank Foundation and an executive vice president of Fremont Bank.

“We know that they will put our holiday grants to great use and will make the season a little brighter for many local residents and their families,” she added.

The following 18 agencies will each receive a $5,000 grant from the foundation: Open Heart Kitchen and Tri-Valley Haven; Castro Valley Outreach, Castro Valley; Centerville Free Dining Room, Fremont; Centro de Servicios, Union City; Davis Street Family Resource Center, San Leandro; and the Food Bank for Monterey County, Monterey County.

Other recipients are the International Orphan Relief Foundation, Brentwood; Loaves and Fishes, Contra Costa County; Martha’s Kitchen, San Jose; Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, Union City; and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Contra Costa County.

Also receiving the holiday grants are South Hayward Catholic Parish, Hayward; Russian American Community Services, San Francisco; St. Vincent de Paul of Alameda County; Tri-City Free Breakfast Program, Fremont; Tri-City Volunteers, Inc., Fremont; and Viola Blythe Community Service Center, Newark.

Fremont Bank, which has a branch in Pleasanton, is the primary funding source for Fremont Bank Foundation.
