A 19-year-old from Livermore was recently arrested for allegedly possessing approximately 258 pounds of illegal fireworks, according to a social media post from the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office.

“The use of illegal fireworks presents a significant danger to public safety, posing serious risks of injury and fire,” ACSO wrote in its post.

With the Fourth of July holiday approaching, the Eden Township Substation’s Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) proactively monitored social media platforms for signs of illegal activity related to fireworks.

Their effort led to the Tri-Valley teen’s arrest on May 21. The investigation was led by the Property Crimes Unit, with support from CRU, the Crime Prevention Unit, and other ETS Investigative Units, according to the ACSO.

In addition to the fireworks, detectives also allegedly seized a controlled substance, along with paraphernalia indicating intent to sell and ammunition.

The post detailing the arrest served as a reminder to citizens that all fireworks, including those labeled “safe and sane” are illegal in unincorporated Alameda County.

Fireworks are also illegal throughout the Tri-Valley, with the exception of Dublin which allows safe and sane fireworks at single-family residences and pre-approved city locations on the Fourth of July; however, fireworks are prohibited in unauthorized parks, facilities, or schools in the city.

All fireworks are banned in Pleasanton, Livermore, San Ramon and Danville.

“We urge community members to prioritize safety and celebrate responsibly. Protecting the wellbeing of our residents remains our top priority,” ACSO officials said.
