Supporters of local music programming — who are also of drinking age — will have the chance to sample libation creations from some of the area’s best mixologists for a good cause next weekend in downtown Livermore.

The inaugural “Tri-Valley Craft Cocktail Competition” is a new fundraiser for Pacific Chamber Orchestra, supporting its main concerts at the Bankhead Theater in Livermore and the Lafayette-Orinda Presbyterian Church as well as its educational programs that introduce classic music to thousands of elementary school children every year.

“This will become a legacy annual event for the Tri-Valley and to support music in the schools and in the community is a double win for everyone,” said Jake Fahnhorst, a member of the organizing committee and a Realtor with Keller Williams Tri-Valley, the event’s lead sponsor.

Scheduled for next Saturday (May 4) from 4:30-7 p.m. in front of the Bankhead, the event will see more than 15 local bartenders showing off their best specially crafted, top-shelf cocktails alongside tasty bites from local restaurants, according to organizers. Attendees will sample the drinks in souvenir shot glasses provided by PCO.

On the line will be bragging rights — as well as cash prizes and trophies for top finishers — as judges will rank the beverages and attendees can vote for the People’s Choice Award. An honor will also be handed out for the Best Table Decoration.

Bars with mixologists participating include Aloft Dublin, Altamont Beer Works, Azotea, Casa Orozco, Demitris, Hops and Sessions, Jonny on the Spot, Sons of Liberty, Sauced, The Fat Pigeon, The Last Word and Patxi’s Pizza, according to organizers.

Tickets for the cocktail showcase, which cost $65 per person, are available online at tvc3.info.

The new fundraiser will come one weekend after PCO’s latest concert series, set for this Saturday evening (April 27) at the church in Lafayette and a Sunday matinee (April 28) at 3 p.m. at the Bankhead.

The shows will feature Max Bruch’s “Violin Concerto No. 1 in g minor” with violinist Livia Sohn, Felix Mendelssohn “Symphony No. 3 ‘Scottish'” and Fanny Mendelssohn’s “Overture for Orchestra”.

“Ms. Sohn appeared with PCO some years back in a fabulous performance of Mozart’s ‘Symphony Duo Concertante’. Her performance of Bruch’s ‘Violin Concerto No. 1 in g minor’ will sing with the verve of the early Romantic Era explorations and with the lyric and passion of the later era’s greatest compositions,” PCO music director Lawrence Kohl said.
