Election forums
The Pleasanton Weekly and Livermore Vine are holding three candidate forums next week as part of this new organization’s 11-part series this fall before the Nov. 3 election.
The seven candidates for Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District are participating in a forum from 6-8 p.m. Monday (Sept. 28) in the LVJUSD boardroom at 685 E. Jack London Blvd. This forum will also be livestreamed.
Then on Tuesday (Sept. 29), Pleasanton voters will be able to hear from the two candidates for mayor from 6-7 p.m. and then the four candidates for City Council Districts 1 and 3, speaking together from 7:10-8:30 p.m. The in-person event will be in the council chambers at 200 Old Bernal Ave.
The two candidates for Livermore City Council District 2 will participate in a virtual livestream forum from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday (Sept. 30).
Video recordings will be made available after each event.
Highway 84 work
Caltrans is planning to fully close Highway 84 (also known as Niles Canyon Road) at the Arroyo de la Laguna Bridge in Sunol this weekend for 14 hours so construction crews can install support beams for the new bridge.
According to its website, the transportation agency will be closing the bridge from 6 p.m. this Saturday (Sept. 26) until 8 a.m. the next day.
“Crews will use a crane to lift and place six precast concrete girders that will form the structural support for the new bridge deck,” according to Caltrans. “A full closure is necessary to provide crews with a safe work area for the crane operation and girder installation.”
This work is part of the agency’s overall goal to replace the aging bridge, which was first built in 1939.
Pops on the Green
The Livermore-Amador Symphony is bringing back its free POPS on the Green concert this Saturday afternoon.
Located on the lawn in front of the Bankhead Theater, the annual concert will feature live performances by the symphony orchestra, as well as Element 116, a local teen jazz band from Livermore.
The event is scheduled to take place from 3-4 p.m.
Dublin Fallon 580 project
Dublin is hosting a pair of community meetings next week where city staff will share information about a proposed residential development project that is seeking to build 238 three-story townhomes across two parcels within the larger Dublin Fallon 580 project area.
Both housing projects, according to the city, would also include private two-car garages, guest parking, private and common open spaces, landscaping and other site improvements, according to a press release from the city.
The two meetings will be held virtually, and will offer the same information so residents do not have to attend them both. One will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 30 starting at 6 p.m., while the other takes place the next day, Thursday, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m.
