The Pleasanton Police Department recently teamed up with other agencies to arrest a 19-year-old Pleasanton man they allege is connected to dozens of commercial burglaries across the Tri-Valley and greater Bay Area, including the rash of early-morning crimes in Pleasanton on Sept. 10.
Juan Luis Valdez-Luevano faces multiple criminal conspiracy and burglary charges out of Contra Costa County, as well as seven counts of burglary out of Alameda County, Pleasanton police said Tuesday. According to Lt. Brandon Stocking, police are working on identifying additional suspects behind the recent burglary spree in Pleasanton.
“The investigation remains ongoing and the Pleasanton Police Department will continue working with our regional partners to identify and arrest those responsible,” Stocking wrote in a press release Tuesday. “Anyone with information related to this investigation is asked to contact the Pleasanton Police Department at 925-931-5269.”
Valdez-Luevano was arrested last week, before meeting his probation officer at the Alameda County Probation Office in Dublin on Sept. 16, according to a separate press release from the San Ramon Police Department on Tuesday afternoon.Â
Police said they took him into custody on an arrest warrant obtained in Contra Costa County, where he is facing six felony counts of criminal conspiracy to commit a felony and six counts of second-degree burglary. He also faces one county of felony burglary.
While he was being arrested, Pleasanton and San Ramon police said they coordinated to serve a search warrant for Valdez-Luevano’s residence on Vineyard Avenue in Pleasanton, as well as his car. There, San Ramon police said they “located evidence at both locations believed to be related to the burglaries”.
According to SRPD, Valdez-Luevano was arrested in connection to an “ongoing investigation into dozens of commercial burglaries reported throughout Contra Costa, Alameda and Santa Clara counties”.
While the department declined to provide specific details on what cities in Contra Costa County are involved in the Pleasanton teen’s case, Lt. Mike Pistello was able to confirm that Valdez-Luevano is “a suspect in several commercial burglaries in San Ramon which is why we had probable cause to arrest him”.
Some of the most recent incidents include burglaries in the Bishop Ranch area and in Danville.
“This is a complicated and lengthy investigation that will take time to conclude,” Pistello told the Pleasanton Weekly.
“The San Ramon Police Department’s Investigations Division continues to actively pursue this case,” the department stated in a press release Tuesday. “Investigators have identified additional potential suspects and are working to establish their involvement. As this is an ongoing investigation, further details are not being released.”
In Pleasanton, police suspect Valdez-Luevano to be one of the four people behind the string of burglaries that took place throughout the course of the morning of Sept. 10. The Contra Costa County arrest log shows that Valdez-Luevano turned 19 the same day (Sept. 10) when the nearly two dozen Pleasanton burglaries took place.
Stocking stated in his press release Tuesday that those same suspects are “believed to be responsible for similar crime sprees in multiple cities across at least three counties”.
The lieutenant told the Weekly that he was unable to provide further details into the suspect’s other alleged criminal activity in other counties where investigations remain open.
Valdez-Luevano is currently being held at the Martinez Detention Facility on a no-bail warrant out of Alameda County. In addition to the seven counts of burglary in Alameda County, Stocking said the teen could face additional charges in connection to the Sept. 10 burglaries as PPD’s investigation continues.
He is expected to be transferred to Alameda County sometime in the near future, authorities said.
