Amador Valley High junior Jennifer Jia finished second in the cadet (U17) division of the Academy of Fencing Masters’ Bay Cup foil fencing competition Sept. 14.

Jia navigated her way through preliminary bouts and then advanced from the round of 32 all the way to the event final, including a 14-13 win in the semifinal. She lost to a San Francisco fencer in the final, 11-7.

Jia heads to Portland, Ore., later this month to compete in a national event.
