Last Friday night’s preseason game between the San Francisco 49ers and the San Diego Chargers at Candlestick Park was the last game before the NFL season begins. It was also an opportunity for Pleasanton Junior Football League players to take their turn at some play on a big league field. The Cardinals and the Texans teams of PJFL scrimmaged during halftime at Candlestick before thousands of fans. PJFL cheerleaders rooted for their teams on the sidelines.
Mike Shevelson, head coach of the Cardinals, said the teams were able to play during halftime because a PJFL player’s dad works for the 49ers. PJFL’s season begins this Saturday and lasts nine weeks. A total of 600 players play games at the Sports Park. There are 80 cheerleaders. For more information about PJFL, visit www.pjfl.com.
