Trust your public employees
Trust in government and experts takes generations to build but only a few election cycles to destroy. I am sure many residents are worried about the lasting harm that has been caused this election cycle to our local civic institutions.
The challenges Pleasanton faces are numerous. City employees are acutely aware of these problems. I am a city employee. We are stakeholders in our community. Let us not be afraid to communicate honestly and openly with the residents of the city we serve. Residents deserve this.
Just like all citizens and residents in our town, those of us employed by the public can practice our First Amendment. It’s the very same First Amendment which protects a citizen’s right to speech (say for instance before one’s local City Council) which also protects a free press and the practice of journalism. Free exercise of speech and written word are inseparable constitutional freedoms.
Lastly, I’d like to commend Ms. Wilcox on her 35 years of service to the community through journalism. I’ve read Ms. Wilcox’s writing since I was a kid. Thank you Gina for the work you do.
Though the Pleasanton Weekly is now a designated 501(c)(3) organization, the paper has never lost its commitment to reporting the local news vital to the community’s interest. The community can trust the Pleasanton Weekly for its balanced take on the issues of the day.

How many voters voted yes on Measure PP believing their yes vote was against the Measure PP?
Evidence was never provided to support Measure PP.
The council majority paid more than $300,000 taxpayer dollars to a consultant who opinioned a sales tax measure may not be approved by voters.
Take a look at the previous years long mayor…budget problems do not happen over night.

Trust in government starts at the top. Councilmember Balch, on repeated occasions said he didn’t believe the community trusted the current Council. That showed in the results of the election. I don’t believe it was lack of trust in public employees.
