As Amador Valley High School students wrap up the second week of the new school year, their principal Jonathan Fey is out on an indefinite leave of absence, according to district officials.
The reasons for Fey’s leave are undisclosed as PUSD’s director of communications, Patrick Gannon, told the Weekly he was not at liberty to share the nature of Fey’s absence nor could he confirm the expected duration.
The news of Fey’s leave first came after Interim Superintendent Maurice Ghysels made an announcement to the Amador Valley community on Wednesday.
Ghysels’ statement aimed to reassure students, staff and the community that during Fey’s absence, they will be “in good hands with the Amador administrative team, along with additional support provided by district leadership and retired PUSD high school administrators.”
Gannon said former Pleasanton Middle School principal John Whitney, who retired in 2013, will be stepping in to help the administration team. He said former Amador principal Joshua Butterfield, who left in 2022 in order to assume his current position as director of secondary education, will also be providing support.
“Amador Valley High School staff, PUSD administration and I all look forward to continuing to provide a wonderful and productive high school experience to every Amador student,” Ghysels said in his announcement.
