Ten firefighters celebrated completing the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department Recruit Academy during a graduation ceremony at Las Positas College last Friday.

The graduating recruits varied from seasoned firefighters making a change in fire departments to a recruit who had never touched a fire hose prior to the academy. They spent the past 17 weeks being trained and tested on structural firefighting, wildland firefighting, vehicle extrication, hazardous materials, stress and grief management, emergency medical services and technical rescue through full-day instruction sessions and nighttime studying and homework.

Many of the LPFD graduates reported for their first shift on Saturday morning.
