BUSC U-16 takes first in SLO

Ballistic United U-16 boys took first place in the San Luis Obispo North-South Tournament Aug. 2-3.

After a slow start against the El Camino Real Salinas Blast, the team gained momentum in its second game by beating SoCal team Palmdale Thunder 4-2.

Mitch Lowrey set the tone in the fifth minute, scoring United’s first goal. Then, defender Zac Savoy took the ball up the right side and crossed it to Zac Arellano for the team’s second goal. In the second half, Evan Larsen hit the crossbar twice and scored on a header. The final United goal came from Arellano on a penalty kick that found the net’s top right corner.

In the semifinal game, United beat Santa Rosa Sol, 4-2. Defender Gustavo Rivera took a free kick and scored on the rebound. Ryan Cox made a perfect pass to Jamie Somerville, who put the ball in the back of the net. Evan Larsen rounded out the score with two more goals. Helping him on the attacks were Mitch Lowrey, James Metz and Sam Fox.

In a spirited final against Tri-Valley’s San Ramon Force, United dominated from start to finish. Goalie Adam Bailey made several excellent saves for the shutout, 4-0, with help from defensive players Zach Laranang and Joey Pereira. Eddie Schoennagel took a brilliant free kick, resulting in the first of two game goals by Jamie Somerville. Also on the attack were Parker Quesenberry and Brandon Krumbach. Larsen scored the third goal in the first minute of the second half. The final goal was driven home by Savoy on a crowd-pleasing breakaway.

Tidal Waves come out on top of TVSL

Club Sport Tidal Waves out swam the competition and took the title of Leauge Champions for the fifth consecutive year. Eight area swim teams competed for the top spot in the Tri-Valley Swim League Championship meet Aug. 2.

Everyone put out their best effort and each team had strong performances in several events, but the Tidal Waves could not be stopped.

New league records were recorded this season by Haley Lukas of Briar Hill (50 breast, 35.95), Brent Reed of Briar Hill (50 fly, 24.36), Kyle Surber of Club Sport (50 free, 22.41 and 100 IM, 55.67), and the Club Sport relay team of S. Jacobe, K. Schempp, K. Surber and J. Cheney (200 Medley Relay, 1:47.47). Many other swimmers set new club records for their own teams at the meet.

Final scores for the recreational swim league teams are as follows: Club Sport Pleasanton Tidal Waves–2,993; Del Prado Stingrays–2,382; DBAC Piranhas–1,952; Dublin Green Gators–1,744; Briarhill Barracudas–1,476; Ruby Hill Kiler Whales–1,423; Pleasanton Meadows Sharks–1,287; FAST Dolphins–694.

One number one in Summer Slam

One, a 12U travel baseball team, began preparations for their upcoming trip to Cooperstown, NY by winning the Summer Slam Tournament in Modesto. The tournament marked the first time the team has played together in six months, and the first games with the team for some new faces.

The team came out on top thanks to the impressive baseball it played throughout the tournament.

In the opening game, One beat the LB Kids 13-1 in four innings. Next up was the Los Banos Bandits who went down 10-2 to One in four innings. One entered bracket play as the No. 1 seed.

Their next opponent was the Central Valley Venom who came up on the losing end of a 10-1 score at the end of five innings. Next up for One was the Brentwood Boys in the championship game. The Boys jumped out early, but One battled back and defeated the Brentwood Boys 4-2.

Key pitching performances were turned in from Evan Anderson, Ethan Glenn, Grant Sokaya, Jared Chan and Camden Reynolds. On offense the stars were Adam Kimmel, Alex Hamm, Alex Zwingle, Ryan Alley, Andrew Taylor, and Daniel Jackson.

Seahawks place 6th in Far Westerns

The Pleasanton Seahawks competed July 30 to Aug. 3 in the Far Westerns meet, hosted by West Coast Aquatics in San Jose. Among fierce competitors, the Seahawks earned a sixth-place finish.

Both the girls and boys 10 and under relay teams excelled, taking third and fourth place in their events. Other assets to the Seahawks were Nick Silverthorne and Joshua Meints who were high point winners for their age group.

Newcomers to Far Westerns also made a big impact with Maxime Rooney, Regis LaChance, Katie Woods, Tony Shen and Caleb Wang swimming well.

The Seahawks had over 35 kids swimming in the four-day event. The Far Western team consisted of Katie Wookds, Maggie Kauffeld, Nguyen, Kayla Lindsey, Rachel Knowles, Natalie Wong, Maggie Woods, Marissa Brown, Allison Brown, Bridget Moran, Roshni Nair, Cassidy Booe, Katrina Anderson, Brianna Neumayr, Casey Coughlin, Tory Houston, Danielle Stickler, Lisa Narum, Kaayleigh Foley, Bethany Poon, Neda Nguyen, Maximme Rooney, Regis La Chance, RJ Scott, Kyle Oslund, Tony Shen, Nick Silverthorn, Caleb Wang, Alex Wang, Andrew Seitz, Chris Guido, Klye Lindsey, Bobby Barrett, Tim McLaughlin, Brandon Chandler, Joshua Meints and Jeffrey Fong.

Rage U19 fall in semifinal after strong opening

Pleasanton Rage Division 2 U19 went 3-1 on Saturday in the California Sun and Surf International Soccer Tournament in Long Beach to reach the Championship Round on Monday. Katelyn Golik and Jill Blandino lead the offensive charge with two goals each in the first day. The defense recorded three shutouts lead by Megan Leoni in Goal, Krista Bormann, Mikayla Swinkels and Nicole Rains.

Unfortunately, Rage lost in the semifinals to FC San Diego 19U, 3-1. The game was tied 1-1 at halftime with Jill Blandino scoring her third goal of the tournament off a deflected shot by Katelyn Golik. The Rage ran out of gas at the end of the second half when San Diego scored two late goals.

The Rage was playing with only 11 players and therefore no substitutes due to injuries and sickness.
