College lacrosse at Amador **USE WITH PHOTO IF NEEDED**
Sonoma State’s lacrosse team, No. 4 in the nation, will play against Santa Clara University at Amador Valley High School at 1 p.m. Feb. 11. Five Amador grads are on Sonoma’s roster and Santa Clara has an Amador alumni and two Foothill grads. Admission is free and the snack bar will be open.Tri-Valley Red Sox 14
In their first tournament as a team, the Tri-Valley Red Sox 14 demonstrated good teamwork and fundamentals while battling against some of the highest ranked competitors in Northern California. Despite losses to the NorCal Black Sox (1-11), the Headfirst Gamers Elite (2-4) and the SV Yankees (0-13), the Red Sox team displayed excellent pitching by Greg Shehtanian, Troy Stetson, Tyler Cook, Drake Rivenes and Nick Hilgen. Defense was in high gear with stunning catches by Aaron Hafford, Jack Pilling, Sean Gallager, Ryan Kochan and impressive double play action by infielders Taylor Menzel, Keaton Housman and Justin Brunnett. RBIs went to Jack Pilling and Aaron Hafford.BUSC United defeats Livermore Eagles
The Pleasanton Ballistic United Boys U11 soccer team moved onto the quarter finals of the CYSA State Cup play by defeating the Livermore Eagles 3-0 in the 16th round. The strong United squad dominated ball possession. Goals were scored by Zane Manaa, Zac Landers and Alex Valencia. The United team reached the 16th round after pool play Jan. 21-22 in Hayward. The team got better and better each game, first tying Walnut Creek 2-2, then beating WCC Alliance Barcelona 1-0, then playing a near-flawless game against River City United Boca winning 5-0. The team will play in the quarter finals against the Merced United Lobos on Feb. 17 in Turlock.Volunteers needed at Special Olympics
Amador Valley High School is hosting the Special Olympics once again and needs volunteers. The basketball event takes place at Amador (and PMS) March 30 and April 1. Track and volleyball events are scheduled for May 5 at AVHS and require fewer volunteers than the basketball tourney. The 21st annual Purple and Gold Gala event benefiting Amador Valley sports will be held 6:30 to 11 p.m. Feb. 24 at the Palm Event Center. The event includes raffles and games, auctions and dancing. The appetizer table includes an Italian meat and cheese spread with assorted crips and breads, while dinner (served family style) features tri-tip sliced with mushroom cabernet, roasted chicken breast cacciatore, and penne pasta with pesto cream.
