Fall Antique Fair

Applications are now available for the first cycle of PPIE (Pleasanton Partnerships in Education) Foundationís student grant program. Deadline to apply is Oct. 10. Funding is available up to $500 per project/per year for student projects. Applications must be authored by a student and have a teacher sponsor. A second cycle of student grants will be awarded in the spring. Last year, PPIE awarded 58 grants to teachers and students totaling more than $37,000. Just a year ago, Pure Girls opened its doors at 660 Main St. for the first time. The anniversary celebration coincided with the Downtown Pleasanton Heritage Festival treasure hunt and festivities. The shop, which specializes in fashion, party packages and salon beauty services for girls of all ages, was named the best birthday party spot in the East Bay of 2006 by Diablo Magazine. A commemorative mosaic featuring photos from over 365 parties hosted there is on display through October.Walk to benefit Open Heart
Open Heart Kitchen has been named a beneficiary of the Tri-Valley CROP Hunger Walk Oct. 15 in Pleasanton. The walk is part of the national Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty (CROP) organization. The 5-mile walk starts at 1 p.m. at 4444 Black Ave. Last year, walkers raised $6,000 and Open Heart Kitchen was awarded $1,200.
