Haggerty didn’t listen

Dear Editor,

My observation as a resident of Happy Valley after attending the meeting this evening (Jan. 26, 2006) regarding the closure of Happy Valley Road is that Supervisor Scott Haggerty is arrogant, closed-minded and has already decided that the road will be closed. His mannerisms and body language said as much.

He requested that people come up and speak what was on their minds, whether for or against the closure. As people against the closure spoke (some more passionately than others), he would roll his eyes, look up to the ceiling, whisper to his staff while hiding behind a piece of paper, turning his back to them and walking across the room, whining “Do you think I want to be here? I’d like to be home with my kids.” Like you were the only one in the room that wouldn’t have rather been home with their family!

You weren’t even listening Mr. Haggerty, because if you were you would have heard a very divided community, thanks to you! All the while blaming the city, “Heh, I didn’t build the golf course, the city did.” Bottom line is no one wants the traffic and no road is any safer than another when it comes to the increased traffic. Are you not a public servant Mr. Haggerty? Why don’t you try acting like one. Fix your roads, as you were well aware of the traffic impact once the golf course was completed!

Golfers should pay for bypass road

Dear Editor,

Who needs the bypass road? The golfers. Who should pay for the bypass road? The golfers. How should this be passed on to the users? Through a surcharge.

This is the normal way unforeseen costs are passed on to the end users [only]. I recommend a $10 surcharge on each round. According to your figures, this will generate over a half million dollars per year. I don’t know the cost of the bypass road, but this would generate over five and half million dollars in 10 years.
