The all-stars of Granada Little League clinched a spot Thursday in the Little League Intermediate 50/70 World Series in their hometown, giving the Tri-Valley a second squad in the 12-team international tournament being contested in Livermore in the week ahead.
Granada won the West Region of the U.S. bracket by defeating Southern California’s Moorpark Little League 7-4 in the championship game played in Arizona.
With the opening ceremony set for Saturday at Max Baer Park in Livermore, the Granada boys are scheduled to play their first World Series game at noon Monday (Aug. 3) – facing the winner of Sunday’s matchup between Southeast representative Bayshore Little League of Tampa, Fla. and the Host Region representative, San Ramon’s Bollinger Canyon Little League.
Bollinger Canyon secured their place in the World Series by winning the District 57 championship as the host district gets an automatic berth in the tournament.
A double-elimination baseball tournament, the World Series features six American teams and six international teams playing from this Sunday (Aug. 2) through next Sunday (Aug. 9). All games can be streamed on ESPN+.
Beyond the two Tri-Valley teams and the Tampa squad, the U.S. qualifiers are Fargo Little League (North Dakota, Central Region), West Side Little League (Pennsylvania, East) and Eastbank Little League (Louisiana, Southwest). The international teams come from Puerto Rico, Aruba, Czechia, Canada, Australia and South Korea.
