The Dublin Leprechauns are marching toward the postseason with momentum, holding a commanding four-game lead in the Pecos League Pacific Division standings – as of press time – with just a few regular-season games remaining.
As the calendar turns toward late July, the green-and-gold squad from the Tri-Valley is on the cusp of securing home-field advantage throughout the playoffs, which will be held next Monday and Tuesday (July 27-28) at Leprechaun Field at Fallon Sports Park in Dublin.
At the heart of the Leprechauns’ success is ace pitcher Jacob Casson, who has been dominant on the mound with a perfect 7-0 record and a Pecos League-leading 93 strikeouts.
“He averages pitching into the 8th inning of every start,” Dublin manager David Aceron said. “That takes a lot of pressure off our bullpen when the starter completes almost every game.”
That stability and firepower have kept Dublin atop the division, amid a competitive Pacific slate featuring teams like the San Rafael Pacifics, Martinez Sturgeon and Bakersfield Train Robbers.
Offensively, the Leprechauns have shown depth with Timothy Wagner, Damon Hale and Juan Gonzalez all providing big bats, combining for 19 home runs.
The Leprechauns suffered a big blow when leading hitter Sam Ott injured a knee, possibly sidelining him for the rest of the season.
With home-field advantage locked in for next week’s playoff opener, the Leprechauns have a golden opportunity to chase their first-ever championship Pacific Division Championship and the chance to face the Mountain Division champion for the Pecos League pennant.
The Leprechauns would likely travel to Colorado for that Championship Series. Dublin faithful’s are buzzing with excitement, ready to “bring the gold” as the team chases its first title in franchise history. For players, coaches and supporters alike, the message is clear: the luck of the Irish is very much alive in 2026.
“We are excited,” Aceron said. “But we know there is a lot of baseball ahead of us.”
Fall sports are approaching!
In some ways it’s hard to believe, but the fall sports season is just around the corner.
And that being the case, it’s time to start planning for collecting results for the upcoming season. The following is what I am looking for regarding each sport.
Football: I usually talk with the coaches each week, so what I am looking for is pictures each week. All I need is the ID for your players and the credit for who took the picture.
Cross country: Just take a picture of the results and text it to me. Can be done right after the race concludes. Make sure to send me a roster so I can correctly spell the names.
Golf: Easy to do. As with cross country, just take a picture of the official scoresheet and send it to me. Also send me a roster so I can get the names correct.
Volleyball: Traditionally, volleyball coaches keep detailed stats so just send me the players with their kills, assists, blocks, service points – you name it. Go for top three or four players and include the final score, as well as any exciting info such as “rallied from 19-10 deficit to win game”.
Tennis: The last couple of seasons volunteers have sent pictures of the result sheet. Once again, please send me a roster which allows for the correct spelling of the players’ names.
Water polo: Amador has been spoiled the last four years as the Dons had a parent that faithfully sent in the results from every game. But her daughter has graduated so someone needs to step up! Easy like all the others – just take a picture of the scoresheet after the game and send it off to me. Like the other sports, I just need a roster of the team.
There you have it. It’s that easy – five minutes at the end of each game or match, but it is surprising how many people are unwilling to help get their athletes recognition.
