Pleasanton native Sean Mannion continues his quick ascent up the National Football League coaching ranks after a nine-year playing career, being named as the new offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday.

Mannion, a former Foothill High School and Oregon State University star quarterback who appeared in 14 NFL games and was the backup for the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LIII, spent the past two seasons on the Green Bay Packers’ coaching staff.

“It was quickly apparent in meeting with Sean that he is a bright young coach with a tremendous future ahead of him in this league. I was impressed by his systematic views on offensive football and his strategic approach,” Eagles’ head coach Nick Sirianni said in a statement Thursday.

“Sean’s 11 years in the NFL have provided him a great opportunity to learn from and grow alongside some of the best coaches in the game. As a result, he has a wealth of knowledge and experience that will be invaluable to our team moving forward,” Sirianni added. “I can’t wait to see Sean with our team, and I want to welcome him and his wife, Megan, to the Eagles family.”

The Eagles hope 33-year-old Mannion, who worked closely with Jordan Love as quarterbacks coach in Green Bay in 2025, will settle the ship on the offensive side of the ball for the Eagles and last year’s Super Bowl MVP Jalen Hurts.

Mannion will become the fifth OC in six seasons for Philadelphia, whose championship-defense campaign came to a disappointing end Jan. 11 with a 23-19 loss at home to the San Francisco 49ers in the Wild Card Round. Offense coordinator Kevin Patullo was fired days later.

A standout football and baseball player for the Foothill Falcons in Pleasanton, Mannion started in all four active seasons as quarterback for the Oregon State Beavers (after a red-shirt season his first year, 2010).

He was drafted in the third round by the then-St. Louis Rams in 2015, playing four seasons often as the primary backup quarterback before and after the franchise relocated to Los Angeles. He was in line behind Jared Goff when the Rams lost to Tom Brady and the New England Patriots 13-3 in the Super Bowl in 2019.

Mannion then spent three seasons as the backup for the Minnesota Vikings. His last two years included time on the practice squads for the Vikings and the Seattle Seahawks before he retired after the 2023 NFL season.

In his playing career, the 2010 Foothill graduate appeared in 14 games, including three starts, going 67-for-110 with one touchdown and three interceptions as a passer, according to ESPN Stats

Mannion entered coaching as an offensive assistant for the Packers in 2024 and was promoted to QB coach in Green Bay for the 2025 season.
