It’s time for the East Bay Athletic League basketball and soccer playoffs to take center stage this week.
Basketball games will take place Monday to Thursday and Saturday. Soccer games take place on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
Both leagues are using a stepladder type bracket with basketball using all 10 EBAL teams while soccer goes six deep. The better a team did during the regular season, the more byes they will receive.
In basketball the tournament starts Monday night. On the boys’ side Amador (9) is at California (8), with Foothill (7) hosting Livermore (10).
On Tuesday, the Amador-Cal winner will travel to No. 5 Dublin, with the Foothill-Livermore winner playing at No. 6 Monte Vista.
In the third round on Wednesday night Dougherty Valley (4) will face the winner of the Dublin game while San Ramon Valley (3) gets the winner of the Monte Vista game.
Thursday night sees the semifinals take place with top-seeded De La Salle hosting the winner of the Dougherty Valley game, and second-seed Granada gets the winner of the San Ramon Valley game.
After a day off, the two semifinal winners will face off for the championship of the EBAL playoffs.
In the girls’ side of the event, play kicks off Monday night with Amador Valley (9) at Dougherty Valley (8), as well as Livermore (10) at Granada (7).
Second round games on Tuesday are the Amador-Dougherty Valley winner at Dublin (5), and the Granada-Livermore winner at Foothill (6).
The quarterfinals on Wednesday evening will see Monte Vista (4) playing host to the winner of the Dublin game, with California (3) hosting the winner of the Foothill game.
Thursday brings the semifinals as top-seeded San Ramon Valley will play the winner of the Monte Vista game, and Carondelet (2) hosting the winner of the Cal game.
After taking Friday night off, the winners of the semifinals will face off for the playoff championship.
In boys’ soccer No. 4 Granada will host Dougherty Valley (5), and Foothill (6) is at San Ramon Valley (3) on Tuesday.
The Granada-Dougherty Valley winner is at top-seeded De La Salle on Thursday in one semifinal, with the Foothill-San Ramon Valley winner is at No. 2 Monte Vista in the other.
Saturday sees the two semifinal winners square off.
On the girls’ soccer side No. 4 San Ramon Valley hosts California (5), and Foothill (6) is at Carondelet (3).
The California-San Ramon Valley winner takes on top-seeded Amador Valley in one Thursday semifinal. In the other, the Foothill-Carondelet winner is at No. 2 Monte Vista.
As with the boys’ play, the two semifinal winners will meet Saturday for the playoff title.
NCS wrestling duals
De La Salle steamrolled to the Division I East Bay title this past weekend at Livermore High.
The top-seeded Spartans opened with an 81-0 win over Pittsburg, then advanced to the championship match with a 61-6 win over California.
The Spartans met Liberty in the finals and rolled to a 53-2 win.
California (5) upset James Logan (4) 49-26 in the first round before being knocked out by De La Salle.
In the consolation bracket, Cal beat Freedom to make it to the third-place match. There the Grizzlies fell to Granada 55-15.
Granada (3) opened the event with a 43-24 win over College Park, then fell to No. 2 Liberty 46-23. In consolation action the Mats beat Pittsburg 48-36, then beat Cal to take third place.
In the D-II East Bay event, No. 6 Livermore fell to Arroyo (3) 46-33 to drop to the consolation bracket. A 46-34 loss to Campolindo (7) eliminated the Cowboys.
EBAL wrestling
EBAL individual winners will be crowned Saturday as the EBAL Wrestling Championships take place Friday-Saturday at San Ramon Valley High.
