It has been a great summer for the Pleasanton-based FTC Track Club as the team sent more than two-dozen athletes to the 2023 USATF National Junior Olympics.

The event has been taking place this week at the iconic Hayward Field at the University of Oregon. Hayward Field recently was the site for the 2023 U.S. Track and Field Championships.

Athletes from FTC have qualified and participated every year in this championship since 2016, but the club will be setting a club record this week with the number of entrants. The initial FTC participation saw just two athletes qualify for the Junior Olympics.

Over 2,000 athletes from the ages of 8-18 from across the United States are competing this week.

The 26 FTC athletes qualified in the following events: 100-meter, 400M, 800M, 1,500M, 1,500M race walking, 4×400 relay (four teams in different age groups), long jump, triple jump and high jump. Results from the 2023 competition are pending as of this publication.

FTC club has athletes from throughout the East Bay area from grade school to high school athletes. Coaches include Matt Beach, Karen Iseman, assistants Torre Anderson and Lesley Townsend, and head coach Jorge Quero.

The FTC members participating in Oregon are EJ Boeschenstein, Shashank Bypan, Raphael Clark, Amandip Dutta, Isaac Gavino, Shiven Karnik, Viraj Misra, Zach Payne, Karththikram Raja, Harrish Rajakumaraswamy, Yousef Salehi, Wyatt Sattley, Ian Sweeney, Aidan Williams, Janika Reese Caranto, Allison Chapman, Lizzy Fraher, Anwesha Ghosh, Danielle Hernandez, Emma Lyon, Annia McCormick, Holly Noden, Allison Oh, Alyssa Shah, Bhavia Tummala and Aaron Yang.

Fall sports are approaching fast!

Even if it feels like we just started summer vacation, the “official” start date for high school sports is rapidly approaching!

Believe it or not, Aug. 7 is the first day our local high school teams can start practice. For the fall sports, that means football, water polo, girls’ volleyball, cross-country, girls’ tennis, girls’ golf and making its debut this year — girls’ flag football.

The start of the fall season also means it’s time for me to start pleading for help collecting results this year. It will take all of 30 minutes a week to get the results turned in to me for publication.

My deadline is the same — noon on Sundays. The key: You do not need to wait until Sunday to turn in the results but can turn them in once your team is done competing for the week.

We are coming off a great spring season, so let’s keep the ball rolling. Remember, you don’t have to be creative — that’s my job; just get me the information and I will turn it into a story.

Let’s run through the fall sports and what is needed.

Football: Who played, final score, highlights (touchdowns, turnovers, big plays, etc.)

Volleyball: Who played, the scores, highlights (kills, assists, service points, blocks, digs).

Golf: Who played, course, par, top five scores (for both teams).

Tennis: Who played, final score, results of each match.

Cross-country: Event competed, length of race, how team fared, top finishers.

Water polo: Who played, final score, highlights (goals, assists, goalie saves, steals, etc.).

Flag football: Who played, score, highlights (touchdowns, flags pulled, etc.).

As usual we also love to get pictures with the following requirements: It cannot be from another publication, we need the name of the person that took the picture and we need the IDs of the people in the picture.
