Aura takes wrestling tournament

Foothill senior Chase Aura took the 119-pound championship at the Mission San Jose Invitational Tournament last weekend.

Entering as the No. 1 seeded wrestler at 119 pounds, Aura got two quick pins on the first day to qualify for the second day. Day two began with a major victory in the quarter finals against San Marin to bring up a semi-final bout against Waldren of Granada. Aura pinned Waldren, who wrestled tough, in the semis to set up a championship final against the No. 2 seed, Eric Perez, from James Logan.

Aura took the title with a late push to defeat Perez by a score of 5-1. Chase was ahead 2-1 entering the third period and scored an escape and take down to take control of the match.

The only other Falcon to make it to day two was Junior Josh Wilner. Also wrestling well at this tough tournament but not able to make it to the second day were seniors Danny Flanagan (1-2) and Aaron Tange (1-2).

Amador boys stun Mustangs 2-1, clinch NCS

Amador successfully fought off Monte Vista Tuesday night for a playoff berth in the NCS.

The boys’ varsity soccer team, which includes 12 seniors, played some stiff competition, stunning Monte Vista in the final 12 minutes of the game.

After attaining a 1-0 lead, Monte Vista continued to pressure the Dons, but Amador was up to the challenge. At 67:30, John Torquato took the throw and sent a long ball. The ball hit the turf and bounced long to a waiting George Mayer who unleashed a laser that beat the Mustang keeper to tie the match at 1-1. The Dons kept the pressure on the Mustang goal and at 70:14, scored the tie breaker on a crazy sequence. George Mayer started the play with a shot that hit off the post and bounded into the right flank. The loose ball was passed to James Metz who sent a rocket at the Mustang goal. The ball also hit the post and Dillon Mullaney was there to receive the loose ball. Mullaney’s first shot was blocked by the keeper but the rebound came right back to Mullaney who sent a second shot on goal. The second shot hit the post and again the rebound came back to him. This time he would not waste the opportunity and sent the third shot into goal for a 2-1 lead.

The win moved the Dons EBAL record to 8-3-2 and 13-6-4 overall. Amador finished the EBAL season against Foothill Thursday night.

Sweet victory for Rage U11 AC White

The U11 Division 1, AC (White) team from Pleasanton Rage was on fire during the NorCal State Cup games in Manteca last weekend, taking both games. They’ll play in the State Cup final Saturday.

In the quarterfinal game Saturday against Mustang Courage, Rage had the ball at the opposing end of the field for most of the game, however Courage managed to score on a breakaway. With just minutes left in regulation play, Monica Martinez passed to Julia Densmore who scored the tying goal. Shortly after overtime began, Densmore received the ball on passes connected by Lisa DeFeo and Madison Avery and blasted the ball into the corner of the net for the game-wining goal, winning 2-1. In the semifinal game Sunday, Rage played like a well-oiled machine against the Marin Rockers with notable performances by Madison Avery, Taylor Campbell, Jenna Crawford, Darcy Kron and Sadie Moore. Goalies Juliet Allen and Bryanna Schreiber kept the ball out of the net to hold the Rockers scoreless, including a magnificent save by Schreiber on a penalty kick. Shots on goal were taken by Avery, Moore and DeFeo. Rage won the game 2-0 on two goals by Densmore, with assists by Makenna Elias and Moore.
