Harvest Park wins wrestling championship

Harvest Park Middle School won the Tri-Valley Middle School Wrestling Championship last Saturday. Place winners and champions included first place winners Nick Gaither, Austin Hamilton, Tommy Barrera, Travis Chubb, Grant Bonham, Tim Young, Tommy Yozzo and Connor Veit; second place winner Connor McCutcheon; third place winners Josh Pease and Anthony; and fourth place winner Des Buccola.

Hart Middle School, which hosted the championship, had over a third of their wrestlers place in the Tri-Valley League Finals. Leading the way with a gold medal was eighth grader Dillon Gilbreth. A pair of eighth graders, Cal Dutrow and Riley Edsen, took home silver as did Louie Desprez, a seventh grader. The event is the finale for the season and Hart Wrestling will be saying goodbye to head coach Rik Kretzinger. Kretzinger, who just completed his 11th year in the Tri-Valley League led a coaching staff of 10. The team will also being saying goodbye to three coaches from the local high schools. Theo Dutrow and Derrick Buffi, who coached at Hart for four years, and Danny Harizal, a two-year coach, are all college-bound to four-year universities.

Amador JV swim teams coast to wins

Lindsey Baxter and Emma McGuiness led the Amador Valley Girls JV swim team to a convincing 117-69 win over Granada last Friday.

The Amador Valley JV boys swim team took firsts in all but three events to coast past Granada by a 120-37 score.

Pleasanton Foothill Little League results

There was a great amount of expectation for a tight game between the Division AAA Red Sox and the first place, undefeated Orioles at last Saturday’s game. With a fierce all around team performance and a Patrick Ronan no-hitter which included 12 strike outs, the Red Sox were victorious over the Orioles 7-1. The team offense was led by a hitting crew that was on fire. In the top of the first, Justin Gronley hit a triple for two RBIs and Jake Van Wagoner hit a single for one RBI. Top of the fifth, the Red Sox bats were relentless: Brian Blasquez hit a triple for an RBI, Hayden Berson hit a double for an RBI, Jake Van Wagoner hit a double for an RBI, and as a team there were 10 hits total. Jairus Woodson did some fine base running that resulted in a steal of home.

The Division A ‘Dogs really had their hitting shoes on, putting up crooked numbers in three innings for the first time this year at their game last Saturday. It was a solid team effort. Sean and Jay had three hits each while Anthony crushed a double for an RBI. Zach and Nick B. had two hits each, and Andrew, Ethan and Devin came through in the clutch.

The Division AA Yankees’ David Brooks pitched a solid two innings and caught a strong hit at the pitchers mound against the Pirates last Saturday. A.J.Walford hit a strong drive to the outfield that culminated to two RBIs in the second innings. Nic Cort hit a strong drive and fielded well at third base. Brandon Beanland demonstrated strong fielding skills in the outfield, helping to tag runners out. Final score was Yanks 10, Pirates 8.

The Majors Angels beat the Giants in a fifth inning turnaround with the final score 14-11. Matt Winsby started off the turnaround in the top of the fourth with the first Angels score. The fifth inning Angels scored seven runs to tie the game 8-8. In the sixth, every Angel player hit the ball. Jake Wilgus scored one run; Matt Weir hit a double for a home run and three RBIs. Derek Banister had three RBIs, played great defense in center and pitched no hitter innings. Camden Murtagh had two scores stealing home for one. Winsby stole home racking up two runs. Jordan Ott had an RBI and stole home.

Lady Hustle runner-up in Stockton tournament

The Lady Hustle 14U Girls Softball team had another successful showing last weekend while competing at Louis Park in Stockton. Lady Hustle attained the No. 1 seed in pool play on Saturday with wins over Stockton Roadrunners and Vallejo Hurricanes and a tie with the Grapettes.

Lady Hustle bats were hot and leading hitters were Jess McKeehan, Alexis Martinez and Katie Mannion, while pitchers Montana Berg, Sami Schiller and Katie Mannion kept the opposing teams in check with just five runs combined over the three games.

On Sunday, Lady Hustle rolled off victories over Concord Dare To Believe, Vallejo Hurricanes and The Concord Bears. Leading hitters were Nu Nu Evans, Lou Lou Lanza, Bianca Devoto and Nikki Stark. In the Championship game, Lady Hustle met the Grapettes team and got off to a 3-0 lead in the first, before eventually falling by a final score of 7-3 against a tough host team within a field of 20 teams.
