Two people were found dead in a Pleasanton home Wednesday evening in what police believe to be a possible murder-suicide.

According to Pleasanton Police Department Lt. Brandon Stocking, 64-year-old Shelly Wang, who owned the home, was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds. In a separate room, officers found 39-year-old Evgeniy Ilin, who was renting a room from Wang, also dead from what appeared to be a single gunshot wound.

“At this time, the incident is being investigated as a potential murder-suicide,” Stocking said in a press release Thursday.

“The suspect’s motive is not known,” Stocking added. “Investigators believe this was an isolated incident, and there is no threat to public safety.”

Stocking said officers arrived at the Pleasanton home, located in the 4600 block of Jefferson Court, around 7:16 p.m. on Thursday. He said they had responded to a welfare check call that came from a nearby tenant who had been unable to contact his neighbors for several days.

As officers entered the home, Stocking said they discovered the two decomposing bodies, which suggests that both individuals appear to have died at least several days earlier.

He said multiple bullet casings were found near Wang but due to the decomposing body, they were not able to determine exactly how many times Wang had been shot.

Even though the autopsy still needs to be performed before investigators have a clearer picture of what exactly happened, Stocking said Ilin appeared to only have one gunshot wound. He also noted that a handgun was located next to Ilin.

Stocking said while police suspect this to be a murder-suicide, they are still investigating the incident and encouraged anyone with more information to contact the Pleasanton Police Department at 925-931-5100.
