Two teens on an electric dirt bike crashed into an SUV in Pleasanton on Tuesday night, seriously injuring one of the teens.

Officers responded to a report of teens crashing a Talaria Sting e-bike into the SUV exiting a parking lot while traveling at approximately 30 mph on the east sidewalk of Santa Rita Road. Police said one of the teens suffered a laceration on his leg, requiring officers to apply a tourniquet. The teen required emergency surgery at a hospital to stop the bleeding, police said.

Pleasanton police said the crash is an important reminder to know and follow the rules of the road. They said many electric dirt bikes aren’t street legal and pose a significant safety risk. They encouraged riders to review current traffic laws and e-bike regulations.

Anyone with questions or who needs guidance about e-bikes can call Pleasanton’s traffic unit at (925) 931-5277.

  1. Technically, not an “e-bike”. Wish journalists would help reduce public confusion. It’s like calling a Tesla an “e-cart”.

  2. 30 mph on the sidewalk! Imagine if a pedestrian had been in their way. Bikes, electric and manual, are ridden on sidewalks all over town and riding against traffic in bike lanes. without regard to traffic laws or obstacles in their way, Riding without lights or illuminated clothing at night. No concept of the risk they pose to themselves and others. It’s surprising that somehow more accidents aren’t occurring.
    Terrifying!
