The Pleasanton Police Department is currently investigating a single-vehicle accident that occurred Wednesday night around 9 p.m. on Foothill Road near Stoneridge Drive which resulted in multiple fatalities, according to PPD.

PPD did not initially share the circumstances related to the crash but in a social media update Thursday evening, the department said officers are still working to determine the cause of the incident but that it appears the car collided with a large oak tree along Foothill Road.

PPD’s update also said that the fatalities included a mother, father and two children under the age of 15.

According to an email sent by Hart Middle School Principal Caroline Fields, the two kids who died in the crash were both Pleasanton Unified School District students. One was from Hart and the other was a Donlon Elementary School student.

“Due to the confidential nature of this case at this time, we are unable to release names at this time. However, we are working directly with the teachers involved,” Fields wrote in the email. “Social workers, substitutes, additional administrator support and other resources from the district were deployed to our site to help students and staff make it through the day and navigate this tragic situation.”

PPD said more details are set to follow in another update Friday afternoon.

  1. Exactly were was the crash? I’m guessing the one bad turn on Foothill, where one is warned about slowing down to 35 mph. I bet the family was traveling north, when had to veer to the right to avoid an uncoming car. Any more trees at that part of the road?
