San Ramon Valley boys and girls win soccer state championships
Two improbable road runs to the state championship became a reality last Friday night when the boys’ and girls’ teams of San Ramon Valley claimed CIF State Division II soccer titles.

Power Rankings as of March 17.
EBAL SOFTBALL
1. California (3-1): I am giving the Grizzlies the benefit of the doubt where in my first poll. The lone loss was to Alameda by a 4-0 final.
2. Carondelet (4-1): The Cougars jumped out to a 4-0 start, then fell 7-3 to Clayton Valley. Cal beat Clayton 7-4.
3. Livermore (3-1): The Cowboys fell 3-1 to Alameda for their lone loss.
4. Foothill (6-2): The Falcons have lost to Clayton Valley and Berkeley. They fell 9-4 to Clayton.
5. Amador Valley (3-2-1): The Dons have dropped games to Tracy and Castro Valley. The tie came against Marin Catholic in the season-opener.
Others: Dublin 4-3, Granada 3-2, San Ramon Valley 3-3, Monte Vista 1-4, Dougherty Valley 0-3.
EBAL BASEBALL
1. De La Salle (1-3): The Spartans had a self-suspension of five games (three counted as forfeits) for violations of school policy, team rules and the code of conduct. When they finally got on the field over the weekend, they beat formerly unbeaten Elk Grove 6-0. The team to beat this year.
2. California (4-0-1): This may shake out differently as the season goes on, but the Grizzlies are getting it done early. The tie was with Piedmont.
3. Dublin (5-1): You can only play the teams on the other side of the diamond, and the Gaels are doing that well right now. The lone loss was to Wilcox of San Jose by a 5-2 final.
4. San Ramon Valley (3-1): The Wolves lost to College by a 2-1 final but did get a big win at Serra to open the season.
5. Monte Vista (4-2): The Mustangs dropped games to Washington and Alhambra but came back with a nice win over Clayton Valley.
Others: Amador Valley 3-3, Foothill 3-3, Granada 3-3, Livermore 2-4, Dougherty Valley 1-3.
EBAL BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL
1. Dublin (7-0, 1-0): The Gaels deserve the top spot for now as they have yet to lose a match this year.
2.Livermore (15-3, 1-1): The Cowboys did lose to San Ramon Valley in league but beat De La Salle in a tournament last weekend.
3. De La Salle (9-7, 2-0): The Spartans are near .500 overall but have played a tough schedule. Big game with Livermore on Tuesday night, then with Amador on Thursday.
4. California (5-3, 1-1): The Grizzlies lost to Livermore in league but then came back and beat Amador Valley 3-1.
5. Granada (11-3, 1-1): The Mats took out Foothill 3-1 in league but then fell 3-1 to De La Salle.
