‘TASTE’ the wine

Livermore Valley Wine Community is gearing up for its rebranded showcase event “TASTE: The Livermore Valley Wine Experience” throughout the region next week.

Running next Thursday through Sunday (Oct. 19-22), the event will kick off with the Taste Our Terroir food-and-wine pairing competition with dessert bar at Garré Vineyard and Winery.

“Livermore Valley’s premier food and wine affair spans four delectable days,” organizers said. “Weekend events include intimate wine-tasting events at our local wineries with our award-winning wines and winemakers.”

Fire Safety Expo

The Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department is hosting a free Fire Safety Expo this Saturday (Oct. 14) from 8 a.m. to noon at the fire training tower at 3333 Busch Road in Pleasanton.

The Livermore-Pleasanton Firefighters Foundation will start things off with a pancake breakfast beginning at 8 a.m.

“The event will feature giveaways, firefighter demonstrations, fire escape planning, information on fire safety and much more,” officials said. “Families can experience a Fire Safety Trailer, learn how to use a fire extinguisher and see a Pleasanton Police K-9 demonstration. And don’t miss the ‘Dunk the Fire Chief’ exhibit where attendees can attempt to dunk fire chief and command staff for a small fee.”

The expo is held as part of observing National Fire Prevention Week, which has a safety message this year of “Cooking safety starts with YOU. Pay attention to fire prevention” — with officials noting that cooking fires are the leading cause of home fires nationwide. Go to lpfire.org for more details.

Valley Humane Society celebrating ‘Dray Day’

Ruby Hill Winery’s longstanding support of Valley Humane Society is being recognized this weekend, as the two organizations celebrate donations through the winery’s Cuvée Dray special red blend surpassing the $50,000 mark.

Ruby Hill donates $10 of every bottle of Cuvée Dray sold to the animal support nonprofit. The red blend is named in honor of the managing member Eric Callahan’s pet dog.

“Partnerships such as this make a big difference in Valley Humane Society’s ability to serve animals and members of the community. The organization relies on private donations from individuals and businesses to fund programs and services,” according to the nonprofit.

The “Dray Day” special event is set for this Saturday (Oct. 14) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Rubino Estates Winery in Pleasanton. Learn more at valleyhumane.org.
