Three right lanes on Interstate 580 eastbound near North Flynn Road outside Livermore are currently closed so that Caltrans workers can work on repairing the cracked roads caused by recent storms and heavy rain.

According to a Caltrans press release on Thursday, the third lane was shut down at 5 a.m. Thursday morning but two of the eastbound lanes will still be open for the public until 1:30 p.m.

Two of the lanes were originally closed to motorists since Monday due to the major crack in the lanes and because of the guardrail and part of the shoulder adjacent to the cracks having collapsed down the embankment.

Signage is in place to notify people of the third lane closure — Caltrans is advising motorists to use alternate routes.

“The closure will accommodate work on the freeway. This work will pave the way toward reopening the freeway with four lanes of traffic,” the press release states. “Caltrans thanks the motoring public for your patience during the closures as we work to restore the lanes to service.”
