Niles Canyon Road bridge repair closure
Caltrans plans to close Niles Canyon Road between Fremont and Sunol from Dec. 3 to 6 as its work continues on a 92-year-old bridge spanning Alameda Creek.
The roadway, also known as Highway 84, will be closed in both directions between Palomares Road in Fremont and Main Street in Sunol from 8 p.m. Dec. 3 to 5 a.m. Dec. 6.
During the closure, the construction contractor will work around the clock to replace the existing bridge railings on the Alameda Creek bridge. The work includes removal of existing barrier rail and concrete, removal of an existing overhang, installation of new reinforcement bars followed by a concrete pour for the new overhang.
The existing bridge was completed in 1929.
During the full weekend closure, motorists are advised to utilize Interstate 680 as an alternate route.

Shop Small-Support Local
The Pleasanton Downtown Association and city of Pleasanton are again partnering on a “Shop Small-Support Local” awareness and advocacy campaign this holiday season to encourage residents to shop, dine and visit local this winter.
“Shop Small-Support Local is a celebration of Pleasanton’s small businesses, ranging from retail stores and restaurants to fitness studios, salons and everything in between,” officials said. “When you Shop Small, you do something big! For every $1 spent at a small business, $0.67 stays in the community.”
The effort includes marking Small Business Saturday in Pleasanton this weekend, a nationwide endeavor designed to support shopping at local small businesses the day after Black Friday.

Green Friday
The East Bay Regional Park District is again celebrating Green Friday today — a healthy outdoor alternative to Black Friday holiday shopping — by offering free admission into district parks and activities, including parking, dogs, horses, boat launching and fishing.
“Time in nature improves physical and mental health and is a great way to relieve holiday stress,” Board President Dee Rosario said. “The day after Thanksgiving is a great opportunity to get outside and spend time with family and friends.”
