The Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau on Sunday confirmed the identity of the decedent as Melanie Mouat, 23, of Pleasanton.

The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. Thursday when a silver Toyota Avalon traveling at a high rate of speed westbound on West Las Positas Boulevard clipped the curb of the center median at a bend in the road east of Hopyard Road, flipped onto its driver’s side and hit a light pole, according to Pleasanton police Capt. Kurt Schlehuber.

Officers arrived to find that the pole crushed the roof of the car into the passenger compartment, and they then discovered a lone female occupant deceased inside the vehicle, Schlehuber said.

One witness remained at the scene and spoke with investigators. Schlehuber said it has not been determined whether drug or alcohol impairment was a factor in the crash.

Portions of West Las Positas Boulevard, between Hopyard Road and Coronado Lane, remained closed until early afternoon Friday as a result of the wreck.

Anyone with information related to the fatal crash can contact the Pleasanton Police Department’s traffic unit at 925-931-5100.

  1. Haven driven West Las Positas many times. The road is a hazard. The city even spent money for signs warning of uneven pavement. I’ve seen cars leave the ground on some of the bumps. Reminds people of a Disney ride I bet. Let’s get it fixed.
