President Joe Biden has directed federal labor officials to draft a mandate that businesses with 100 or more employees must require them to prove their COVID-19 vaccination status or test for the virus at least once a week.
The mandate will apply to roughly 100 million workers, including those in the public sector as well as health care workers and workers contracting with the federal government.
Biden argued Thursday that the policy is part of his job as president “to protect all Americans” and that compelling eligible people to get vaccinated is “not about freedom or personal choice, it’s about protecting yourself and those around you.”
The requirement is one of the largest steps the federal government has taken to address the sect of Americans who remain resolutely unvaccinated.
California has yet to issue a similar mandate for much of the state’s workers, but vaccination proof or frequent testing is already required for state employees as well as health care workers and K-12 teachers.
Local governments have gone even further, with several in the Bay Area requiring county employees to get vaccinated or they’ll be fired.
San Francisco and Berkeley have also issued requirements that people provide proof of vaccination to dine at restaurants, work out at gyms and attend large events.
On Thursday, Biden pointed out that major businesses like United Airlines and Tyson Foods have already mandated vaccination or frequent testing for their employees across the country and that many vaccine holdouts have cited a lack of full approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration as a reason for their hesitance.
With the two-dose Pfizer vaccine now fully approved by the FDA and the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines likely to receive similar approval in the coming months, Biden argued that the time for waiting to get vaccinated is over.
“We’ve made vaccinations free, safe and convenient,” he said. “The vaccine is FDA-approved. Over 200 million Americans have gotten at least one shot. We’ve been patient, but our patience is wearing thin, and the refusal has cost all of us.”
Nearly 82% of California residents age 12 and up have received at least one vaccine dose as of Friday, according to data from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Within the state, many of the greater Bay Area’s counties have some of the highest vaccination rates in California. Both San Mateo and Marin counties have eclipsed 90% of their eligible populations receiving at least one vaccine dose.
Both counties are also on the cusp of reaching 90% of their respective eligible populations being fully vaccinated.
Vaccine Mandates? Really? Individuals are unvaccinated!….Just “Who Are These Individuals” that remain unvaccinated? And why do we care? After all, Didn’t Fauci once say, When 70% are vaccinated, there would be herd immunity? What happened to That?
I’m vaccinated, I’ve experienced COVID, So Am I Immune? One would think so, but if I am, then Why are my Freedoms being threatened? Threatened,…A word used in and about Third World Countries…Not Here!…There’s more of a Border Wall around California than there is on The Border itself….Please, someone tell me the last good thing our Govenor did for our citizens… Water? Electricity? Forrest Management? Roads? Small Business?

If Elder wins, he should attempt to scrap the short sighted renewable energy mandates/requirements from the “world is going to end” (climate change) crowd.
Wind and solar can’t supply the needs of the state, there should never be a situation where there is not enough energy available/being produced, and residents/businesses should not be told to just “tough it out for the planet” (not use energy)between afternoon and evening hours. Leave it to so called “progressives” to now want to get rid of natural gas in government buildings/new residences in the state – despite it being a reliable, low cost, abundant, and clean burning energy source.
Newsom will just double down on more of the “climate emergency” nonsense forcing us to pay higher energy costs than the national average and with continued unreliability (due to all the new electric cars he wants people to buy/use).
The CCP virus is the least of our problems when held next to the disintegration of our country. In the recent past President Trump was called a racist, Hitler, a Dictator, and more. What do they now say of Biden? He has just blown open the barn door and will continue to rule with the approval of China. Are we a few footsteps behind Australia?
All these demands will accomplish nothing except to create more weak people that submit to anything out of fear and pressure. ‘The Vaccine Will Make You Free.’ I’ve heard that expressed differently back in 1939.
The demands will increase and our rights will diminish. Planned Parenthood has lost its leverage with the slogan of ‘My Body, My Choice.’
In reality, the unvaccinated are at more risk of catching the virus from the vaccinated. And don’t forget, Israel is preparing for a fourth round.
When will this all end? Follow the money.
As long as restaurants are responsible and start asking for cholesterol levels before letting customers order hamburgers I’m ok with it. It’s not that I’m worried about getting heart disease, it’s that I’m protecting you from heart disease.
California we have a problem. Folks seem to think their uneducated opinion is a substitute for what comes down to many centuries of scientific study about the use and effectiveness of vaccines. For the folks in the back that are not listening and getting vaccinated, you are stupid and putting others at risk. Your opinion about real world things is MEANINGLESS. To say your uneducated opinion offers value against scientific consensus tells me you are selfish. When you get covid, I will have a party and if you die from it I will dance on your grave. Stop being stupid and get the shot.

I’m personally not against vaccination, I’m against the rhetoric and inconsistent mandates. Perhaps some love and understanding would net you the results you seek vs such divisive and un neighborly commentary. Be blessed
