Armistice anniversary

Next Tuesday will mark 68 years since the armistice agreement that ended major fighting in the Korean War.

To commemorate the anniversary, the Pleasanton VFW Post 6298, Pleasanton American Legion Post 237 and Asian American High School Alliance will honor and recognize the sacrifice of American forces during and after the Korean War during a special event, “The Unforgotten War for Peace,” this Sunday (July 25) at 2 p.m. at the Vintage Hills Shopping Center at 3550 Bernal Ave. in Pleasanton.

Several Korean War veterans will be recognized, and there will be traditional games, crafts, dance performances and demonstrations.

“We are coming together to remember what American forces did to preserve and protect South Korea,” AAHSA founder Joshua Sim said. “If we do not preserve and protect our heritage, how can we expect others to respect us? Our heritage as Asian Americans is that we live in a free society where an individual can pursue his or her dreams and be judged one’s character as well as merit.”

TV30’s ‘About the Tri-Valley’

On the new edition of TV30’s “About the Tri-Valley” program, host Dr. Marshall Kamena speaks with Jim Brase, deputy associate director for data science at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory to share more about how LLNL has been using computing and artificial intelligence to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

The timely and informative episode, the first of two installments, can be viewed now on Comcast Channel 30, AT&T U-verse Channel 99 or at tv30.org.

“This includes the design of new antibodies and antiviral drugs to neutralize the virus causing the disease. Moreover, his team is focused on redesigning therapies against a broad spectrum of viruses,” Kamena said.

In the episode, Brase explains how LLNL and the consortium of national lab partners aim to transform drug discovery by greatly accelerating the development of effective therapies for patients. “We want to be ready in weeks, not years, for the next pandemic,” he said.
