Single-family home residents in the city of Dublin will be able to recycle their old clothing, shoes, bedding and towels without having to go anywhere, starting on Monday.
Amador Valley Industries (AVI) will start collecting textiles from single-family residences as part of its recycling services. The first collection will take place the week of July 5-9, on residents’ regular trash pick-up day at no additional fee.
Residents must notify AVI that they have textiles for collection at least seven days in advance, and place acceptable items curbside in a clear plastic bag before 6:00 a.m. on their regular trash collection day. Because a separate driver will be collecting textiles, bags must be visible at the curb and not behind or on top of carts. All textiles must be dry for collection.
Multi-family units must request a textile recycling pickup through their property manager to coordinate the collection date and location with AVI.
Accepted textiles include:
Clothing of all types for adults, children, and babies
Shoes for adults, children, and babies
Stuffed animals
Bedding and towels
Textiles that are not accepted include:
Wet or moldy textiles
Textiles containing human biowaste, blood, or toxic chemicals
Items too worn to be used again
To request textile collection, contact AVI at least seven days before at: 479-9545.
The textile recycling service will be offered again during the first full week of October 2021, January 2022 and April 2022. Residents will not receive a tax-deductible receipt for participating in the collection. Textiles will go to the Richmond-based nonprofit organization Recycle for Change.
