Blood drive at Bernal Park

Pleasanton’s Bernal Community Park is hosting a blood drive next Friday organized by the Stanford Blood Center.

Donors with all blood types are always welcomed, but there’s always a special need for type O blood.

“The need for blood is constant. Even during a pandemic. Currently, there are more than 200 surgeries per day at our partner hospitals, and blood donations are used to save about 12,000 lives a day,” said Clayton Toller, account manager for the Stanford Blood Center. “It’s the blood that we have readily available that allows us to save a life at a moment’s notice.”

The Pleasanton community blood drive will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday (July 2) at Bernal Community Park, 7001 Pleasanton Ave. Walk-in availability is limited, so appointments are encouraged — via https://stanford.io/2Sr1tVz or 888-723-7831. Each donor will receive one Cinemark movie ticket.

Honoring Lindskog

The U.S. Army is hosting a ceremony next week to formally dedicate the SPC. Jameson L. Lindskog Army Reserve Center at Camp Parks Reserve Forces Training Area in Dublin.

The facility is named in honor of the late Lindskog, a Pleasanton native and combat medic who was killed in action on March 29, 2011 while deployed in Afghanistan. He was 23 years old. Among his military honors, Lindskog was posthumously awarded the Silver Star Medal for acts of heroism after being mortally wounded in combat.

The new Lindskog Reserve Center, which will be dedicated next Tuesday morning, will be utilized to train current and future military medical professionals.

Livermore Library online catalog

The Livermore Public Library this week launched its “new and improved” online catalog, aiming to make it easier than ever to search the library’s collections with support for natural language, auto-complete suggestions and “did you mean” functionality.

“Featuring a modern design, simple navigation, and the ability to create and share content, the new catalog is designed to help users search, discover, borrow and connect,” library officials said. “The new catalog also allows patrons to interact with library staff, create themed lists, review books and share recommendations with the library community.”
