A San Jose-bound Altamont Corridor Express train on its way toward the Tri-Valley struck and killed a construction worker Wednesday morning in Tracy.

ACE officials reported shortly after 7:20 a.m. that train 05 from Stockton to San Jose stopped just before the Tracy station as a result of the collision.

According to Tracy police, the train hit a construction company vehicle that was doing work on Linne Road between MacArthur Drive and Tracy Boulevard.

Authorities said the individual killed has not yet been identified.

After approximately two hours, ACE 05, the train involved in the collision, was released from the scene and has continued toward destination in San Jose.

ACE was expected to continue running full service Wednesday evening with three trains running from San Jose to Stockton.

  1. Prior to the pandemic, I used to ride ACE on a daily basis and train strikes were not uncommon. Either an ACE train was involved or another train up the line was involved, which caused ACE train delays. In my experience these incidents don’t always make it into the local news, because they happened elsewhere along the line.

    Here’s my comment:
I would be interested in seeing some statistics published concerning these incidents as part of stories of this nature, because it *felt* like it was happening a lot and I’d like to get some perspective of the frequency, emotional impact to train engineers and any efforts to improve safety.
