Axis Community Health is here to assist residents navigating the complex process of signing up for health care coverage during open enrollment.
“Health insurance can be confusing. If you have questions or concerns about enrolling we can help,” said community relations manager Paula Barriga. “An Axis Enrollment Counselor can help determine if someone is eligible for Medi-Cal, Covered California, or CalFresh during a free enrollment assistance appointment.”
Barriga added, “It’s important that consumers not miss the open enrollment window for Covered CA or they may not have another opportunity to enroll. Remember, you must now have coverage or potentially face a state tax penalty.”
Private insurance plans for U.S. citizens and document immigrants are available through Covered CA. Coverage cannot be denied due to pre-existing conditions, and financial assistance to help cover plan and service costs is available for eligible applicants. Individuals with an income of $76,560 or less; a family of four earning $157,200 or less also qualifies for assistance.
Axis counselors can also help with renewing or enrollment in Medi-Cal, which has year-round enrollment. Individuals with an income of $17,237 or less are qualified; a family of four with an income of $35,535 or less also qualifies for Medi-Cal.
Open Enrollment for Covered CA health plan coverage, which started last month, ends Jan. 31, 2021. Anyone can enroll for a Covered CA health plan at www.CoveredCA.com.
For coverage starting Jan. 1, be sure to enroll by Dec. 15. Plans purchased during the current open enrollment period will be honored through the end of the year.
Enrollment services are only available by telephone, and are offered in English and Spanish, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. To make an appointment, call 462-1755.
