Caltrans will be performing tree removal along Highway 84 between now and the spring of 2021 as part of the Niles Canyon Road safety project, according to a Caltrans spokesperson.
The tree removal is also necessary to accommodate construction of the Alameda Creek Bridge Replacement Project on Highway 84, beginning in the spring of 2021. Highway 84 is also known as Niles Canyon Road between Mission Boulevard in Fremont and Pleasanton-Sunol Road in Sunol. From there and east to Interstate 680, the highway is known as Paloma Way.
The work will take place between Mission Boulevard and Interstate 680.
One lane of traffic may be closed at times during the work. When that occurs, signs and flaggers will be in place to direct traffic. Motorists can expect up to 15 minutes of delay during the tree removal operation.
When completed, the new bridge over Alameda Creek will replace the existing one, which was constructed in 1929.
