Television actress Lori Loughlin reported to the minimum-security federal prison for women in Dublin on Friday to begin serving a two-month sentence stemming from her conviction in the college admissions bribery scandal that grabbed national headlines last year, according to the Associated Press.
Loughlin and her husband, fashion designer Mossimo Giannulli, accepted plea deals in August for paying half a million dollars in bribes to pass their daughters off as rowing recruits to gain admittance into the University of Southern California, the AP reported. The celebrity couple were among several dozen high-profile parents arrested in the federal “Operation Varsity Blues” investigation in 2019.
Loughlin, who like her husband reversed course to plead guilty after initially denying the charges for more than a year, was sentenced to two months in prison, a $150,000 fine and 100 hours of community service, according to the AP.
She reported on Friday to the Federal Correctional Institution in Dublin, a minimum-security facility for female inmates located not far from the Santa Rita Jail, to begin serving her prison sentence, which will include an initial 14-day quarantine under COVID-19 protocols. The AP reported that the defense and prosecutors agreed that she would not seek an early release on coronavirus-related grounds.
Loughlin, 56, has acted professionally since she was a teenager and is perhaps best known for her role on the sitcom “Full House” in the late 1980s and early 1990s, as well as more recently starring in Hallmark Channel television movies.
She is the second celebrity actress to be incarcerated in the Dublin prison after being convicted in the college admissions scandal.
Emmy Award winner Felicity Huffman served 11 days of a 14-day prison sentence there in October 2019 after pleading guilty to paying an admissions consultant $15,000 to have a proctor correct her daughter’s SAT exam answers in 2017, according to the AP.

@ Candyce — It’s unlikely you will find stories about Trump’s latest tweet or Biden’s VP pick in our publication or on our websites. We don’t cover national politics, unless someone or something local is involved. We are a local news source, and accurately and fairly reporting on local politics and other stories is much more valuable to our readers than coverage of national news.
Our time is best spent reporting on the issues and events that directly affect citizens’ day-to-day lives on a local level such as what happened at city council and school board meetings, how the Tri-Valley communities are working together to respond to the pandemic, local elections and other information that needs to be accurate and timely.
But, as I mentioned, we do “localize” national news like this. A celebrity going to jail in LA wouldn’t have made our site.
You would know this if you were invested enough in local news to subscribe to your local paper. This topic was covered in our newsletter for subscribers.
@Michael — we will be covering this because it directly affects our community.
@James Michael, Please provide examples because the ironic thing is we have many people saying we are too much in the “republican wagon.” We have endorsed people who have more conservative values and people who have more liberal values. Political party doesn’t come into the conversation. It depends on the person, specific views and composition of the council / board, and other factors.
Since we are getting grief for being on the “Democrat wagon” and the “Republican wagon,” I guess we are doing a good job.
Don’t you have to laugh? The Weekly believes Pleasanton readers care more about an actress booking into the pen for a couple weeks vs providing voters with any plausible/factual information about our upcoming Presidential election? I would have preferred an article stating the differences of the two Presidential candidates on 1)borders 2) abortion funding up until the moment of birth and after 3) school choice 4) no bail release of criminals 5) first and second amendment rights 6) lock downs to control virus spread 7) stance on the destruction of public and personal property by “protected” anarchists and so many more important issues. Do we really care about a movie star? Actually yes. That she was punished for the wrong she did. Yes. But we are in the midst of an aggressive move to destroy the Constitution by the Democrat party. I would have preferred a discussion on that issue.
How about a discussion regarding Oakland mayor trying to convince the Alameda County Supervisors to move the Oakland homeless to Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton?
“But we are in the midst of an aggressive move to destroy the Constitution by the Democrat party. I would have preferred a discussion on that issue.”
If you want a “discussion” on this issue, just read the earlier editorial on October 15th of this same publication. It endorsed all of the Democrats running for reelection. What could possibly go wrong with wanting more of the one party tax/spend/regulate agenda in the state and/or an “experienced” congressional candidate that endorsed gun confiscation for the law abiding and impeached a President over a phone call?
And if this publication wasn’t so stuck in the democrat wagon then maybe more people would subscribe, Ms Channell Publisher.
