Some of the best STEM (science, tech, engineering and mathematics) courses in the country can be found right here at several Tri-Valley high schools, according to Newsweek’s recently released Top 500 Best STEM Schools rankings.
Foothill and Amador Valley high schools in Pleasanton, as well as Dougherty Valley High in San Ramon and the Quarry Lane School in Dublin, made the annual list. Overall, 82 of the best 500 STEM schools in the U.S. were located in California, many of those within the Bay Area.
“We’re fortunate to have amazing #CTE PLTW – Project Lead The Way pathways for students at both schools from computer science to biomed. Way to go #Dons and #Falcons!”, the Pleasanton Unified School District posted on social media last week.
The district-wide program Project Lead The Way teaches pre-K through 12th-graders about computer science, engineering and biomedical science through hands-on projects and classroom lessons.
The Tri-Valley school rankings and their respective scores are as follows:
Amador Valley
STEM Rank: 169
Score: 94.04
Foothill High School
STEM Rank: 242
Score: 93.08
Quarry Lane School
STEM Rank: 267

Dougherty Valley High School

The top 1,000 nationally ranked high schools were eligible this year for the STEM rankings. To see the complete list and scores of all 500 schools, visit https://tinyurl.com/upc5afl.

Wow that’s great! Wait, there is one city missing. The one with the $410,433.71 a year Livermore Superintendent Kelly Bowers.
So how does this align with comments made on an earlier post, where everyone was saying the only reason Amador student learn math is because they have to go to tutors after school?
Does this mean Pleasanton has nationally ranked tutoring services?
You’re missing the point, which is that Livermore Parent has a gripe about the Livermore superintendent. She should get a weekly column here on the Livermore—I mean Pleasanton—Weekly, so she can repeat the same complaint week after week, month after month, year after year. Maybe James Michael Austin can chime in from time to time and call people snowflakes and Kathleen R. can chip in the occasional guest column about how one day she’ll support our schools, just not today. I mean, these three each contribute more copy to this site than any journalist, despite the fact that their individual messages are always the same. Always.
Always.
The.
Same.
I support PUSD schools with my time and with my money and I support the boasters who give their time and support. I do not support this current PUSD board, I am actively recruiting new candidates to run for the PUSD board. I have never had children in PUSD schools.
I support our schools all the time. Supported last three bonds. Showed up and proved the need for an elementary school in the current bond. So how is that “always””the”’same”? The facts must be bothersome for you idee.
And the schools are still doing fine. With or without bonds and parcel taxes. Sometimes that needs to be said. Happy Thanksgiving.
