A man who died as he was operating a forklift Monday afternoon in Lafayette was identified by the Contra Costa County coroner’s office as Edwin Gomez-Zarate of Livermore.
Gomez-Zarate, 35, died shortly after 3 p.m. when Lafayette police were sent to a worksite in the 800 block of Avalon Avenue near Stanley Park.
California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA) officials said Gomez-Zarate was driving a forklift to load and unload paver stones for a landscaping company when he became trapped in or by something.
Cal/OSHA officials said they could not immediately release any more information about the case.
Gomez-Zarate died before he could be treated at a hospital.
The case remains under investigation by Lafayette police and Cal/OSHA. Anyone with information is asked to call the Lafayette Police Department at (925) 283-3680.
