Leslie Appleton Young, vice president and chief economist for the California Association of Realtors (CAR), will speak about prospects for the real estate industry at 8:30 a.m. Friday at the weekly meeting of the Valley Real Estate Network (VREN).

The local real estate group, which meets at Tommy T’s at Comedy SteakHouse at 5104 Hopyard Rd, in Pleasanton, is part of the Bay East Association of Realtors.

The California organization is a statewide trade association with more than 150,000 members.

Appleton Young directs the activities of the association’s Member Information Group. She oversees the analysis of housing market and brokerage industry trends, broker relations, and membership development activities. She is also closely involved in the association’s strategic planning efforts and is a well-known speaker in California’s real estate community.

Before joining CAR in 1984, she was a consultant with Telesis Inc. in Rhode Island. She also spent several years working as a research associate at the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia and as an instructor at the University of Pennsylvania.

She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from the UC Berkeley and her Master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
