The Pleasanton Weekly is on the hunt for the next Ansel Adams, the next Annie Leibovitz, or just the next person who points a camera and shoots something remarkable. If you have an eye — and a camera to go with it — enter the 2013 Tri-Valley Photo Contest.
The contest is open to anyone and everyone who lives, works or attends school in Pleasanton, Dublin, Livermore, San Ramon, Danville, Alamo or Blackhawk. Categories for entries are People, Pets and Animals, and Tri-Valley Images. The winners of the three categories from both the Youth (16 and younger) and Adult divisions will get to enjoy prizes and some artistic fame.
Digital photos only will be accepted. Submissions must be in jpeg format, from 1MB to 3MB in size, and submitted to Pleasanton Weekly by Sept. 30, 2013, along with an entry form and entry fee for each submission. Entry fee is $8 for adults and $3 for youths. The photographs must have been taken in the past five years, and must be original.
Submissions will be judged by three local professional photographers: Sue Evans of Photography by Sue Evans; Gina Reuschel-Coomber of Fireboxgirl Photography; and Christina Gray of Bella Luna Studios.
Winners will be notified by Oct. 18 and invited to a reception celebrating their achievements.
For more information or an entry form, see the webpage, starting Friday morning, Aug. 16.
Sponsors for the contest are http://www.shoprichards.com/ Richard’s Arts and Crafts] in Livermore and Alamo, and The Frame Company and Art Gallery in Dublin.

$15 a picture to enter????? Is the money going to some charitable organization? I hope so.
I am really jazzed about this contest. I am going to take my inspiration from Carlos Danger!
Tried to download the form, however the link then says “Oops! This link appears to be broken”
Page not found – nice.
For $15 we should be allowed at least 3 entries each. And what are the prizes and artistic fame offered. Not seeing very much of an incentive. The Harrington Gallery is for more prestigious and costs less for art (photo) entries.
As photobug and Jack both commented above, a $15 entry for one photo is pretty steep — especially if that money is not going toward some charity fund for youth art programs or the like. I see on the contest webpage that the sponsors for the contest are the same businesses that the prizes are from, so the logical conclusion is that those “sponsors” are donating the gift cards mentioned in the prize categories. The total cash prizes of $185 are covered by 12 adult entries and one youth/student entry. Are they not expecting many participants, or are the judges paid?
Total cash prizes equal more than $400. Three categories, two divisions and a Best of Show. And the sponsors don’t donate the gift cards; they receive publicity in the form of ads, etc., which translate to ad space.
This is the first contest, so I’m not sure how many entries we will receive. I set the entry fees lower than the contests at our sister publications, since they have been doing this for a while.
I thought this would be fun for the community, since our sister pubs have great response in their contests and we have a lot of amateur photographers in the Tri-Valley and no other similar contests. This isn’t intended to be a big money-maker, but I do want to cover our costs.
The photo contest website will be live by tomorrow morning. Sorry for the inconvenience.
