A business owner whose Pleasanton day spa was burglarized over the weekend is warning other businesses to take extra precautions.
Two Mac computers worth a total of about $2,400 were stolen in just minutes from Lavandu Face & Body at the Mission Plaza Shopping Center in the 1900 block of Santa Rita Road, spa owner Pat Workman said.
“They used a glass cutter and they cut a little circle on the glass door we have,” Workman said. “When they did that, it shattered the glass.”
A video from the store’s surveillance system shows a Caucasian male in a dark hoodie and clothing entering the shop and making off with the computers. The break-in occurred at about 5:34 a.m. Saturday morning.
“For the most part, it would appear that he was only interested in our Mac computers, wireless keyboards and wireless mice. He knew ahead of time what he was after, came in quickly, got it, and left in less than 60 seconds,” Workman said.
She is asking anyone who might have spotted the car, which was parked in front of the day spa, to contact police. The shop’s surveillance cameras did not capture that car.
Workman said another Mission Plaza business was also hit recently. She said about a month ago, the office of Fiesta Tacos was burglarized and a cash box was stolen from the restaurant’s office.
Pleasanton police Sgt. Kurt Schlehuber said Fiesta Tacos was hit late Dec. 29 or early the next morning. Schlehuber said it doesn’t appear the two are related.
He said unlike the Lavandu break-in, the door of the restaurant was pried open.
“It looks like more of a coincidence than anything,” Schlehuber said,
Workman, however, said the burglar at her place did try to use a crowbar first, resorting to the glass cutter when he couldn’t pry the door open. She said the two recent burglaries should warn other businesses to take extra precautions, locking valuables up or making it more difficult for people to get in and out.
Despite the theft, Workman said all her customers’ data is safe.
“None of our clients’ personal information or transactions were stored on those computers so there was no security breach,” she said.
Anyone with information on either burglary is asked to contact the Pleasanton Police Department at 931-5100.
I would say the entire Shopping center needs night time video surveillance cameras, just a matter of time before the salon is hit again to steal the NEW computers. Or, better yet get computers you can take home at night.
Whenever this kind of crime hits, you have to wonder seriously about the help. This sounds like an inside job. How many manicurists can afford two $1200 computers? No, they ‘bought’ them in order to get the insurance on their ‘theft’. Now they’ll likely have two computers and a lap full of insurance money. I could say more about these types, but I’m going to bite my tongue.
I wouldn’t assume that photo is of a man – could be a woman, too. Why would they have their hood up at that hour of the morning?

How would you know there was a car used? How would you know it was parked in front of the salon if no camera picked it up?
Mayb lights from the car pulling up / pulling away shined in through the front doors and windows?
Are you seriously wondering why the person’s hood is up? How about trying to conceal identity?
Gordon I love how you assume “manicurists” can’t afford nice computers. Computers are a necessity in the salon industry. Having the latest and greatest is the “thing” and they actually make great money… Maybe not “ruby hills” money but enough to have a shop in pleasanton! Insert snobby upturned nose here
I am always amazed, disgusted and embarrassed by the comments on these boards. They stole their own computers??? Does that mean that it should be suspected that the burglaries in Ruby are committed by the homeowners to get the insurance, too? I mean, after all Gordon, you have extensive security so it must be an inside job to get new diamonds and keep the old ones, too! Give me a break. I love this town but so often can’t stand a lot of the people who live here.

Lavandu is a day spa, not a salon and we do not provide hair or nail services. The business is owned by Pleasanton residents and we worked very hard to be able to open the business and offer something to the community. We have a nice reputable establishment and offer advanced skin care and massage therapy catering to women who appreciate quality and attention to detail. It is truly unfortunate that something like this happens. My hope is that this news would alert other businesses to be vigilant of people who patronize their offices/store/business as they could be scoping out valuables with the intent to return during non-operating hours and help themselves to your hard-earned assets. Suggestions that are productive and offer value are appreciated, even kind words, but insensitive and ignorant comments are dismissed. My best to the readers and may you and your family be well and stay safe.
Whenever there is news of any stealing anywhere in or around Ruby Hill, I fire all my cooks, butlers, nannies, and yardworkers. I assume the servants are linked to other servants and that the inside jobs always indicate the potential for spreading crime throughout the community. It’s unfortunate that working class people cannot be trusted around money. That’s why we have time clocks and foremen, after all.
I suspect this “Gordon” (probably not his name) is not a resident of Ruby Hills, but just a troll combing through the internet to post racist hate filled rants.
No one can really take an idiot like this seriously anyway.

Mike seems to be a pretty shallow thinker. He reads someone’s intelligent comments about the moral depravity of working-class people and he blathers about racism. Not too bright of a fellow.

The photo obviously isn’t accurate. Its too bright and there fore makes the perp’s complexion seem way lighter then it really is.

Unfortunately for you, you don’t have the intelligence to know that having a lot of money has nothing to do with having class. Yes, most in the true upper class do have a lot of money, but never flaunt it, and never have the need to TELL people how intelligent and classy they are. No one on here has you confused with those people. And, again unfortunately for you, you will never buy your way in. I do think you at least have enough intelligence to know that. It is probably that insecurity that spurs post trying to validate how smart, rich and “classy” you are. In the future it would behoove you to know that isn’t something that a member of the upper class would EVER do.

Gordon probably can’t deduct charitable donations because it sounds to me like he’s probably between 15-17 years old. I’m sure he has a big allowance from mommy and daddy, but doesn’t pay taxes yet.
I could certainly see him living in Ruby Hill based on his pretentious comments. But the writing style just reeks of a bored and spoiled teenager who is just trolling around for a cheap thrill – must mean he can’t get a date or he wouldn’t be wasting his time here! 🙂
