Sheep riding—or Mutton Bustin’ as it’s called at the Alameda County Fair—pits kids younger than 6 and under 60 pounds against 175-punds ewes in a fast-moving attraction at the Fairgrounds. The riders don helmets and vests and hang on as long as they can once the starting gate opens. As this video shows, only a few make it much beyond the gate.
The fair runs through July 8 and this holiday week with its predicted good weather and moderate temperatures should help the Alameda County Fair organizers exceed all attendance expectations with new records already being set on opening day and a few other days.
