The Pleasanton Senior Center is open again after being closed for eight days for routine maintenance.
The work that included painting, carpet cleaning and other routine maintenance caused the center to be closed for eight days.
Because the center also functions as a busy community center on weekends, such maintenance is regularly scheduled to keep it in good condition for all public uses, according to Joanne Hall, city spokeswoman.
Regularly scheduled programs were cancelled, including the Spectrum Community Services lunch program.
Open Heart Kitchen’s Senior Meal Program at Ridge View Commons, which is located at 5200 Case Ave and backs up to the Senior Center, opened its dining room to all seniors while the Senior enter was closed.
The Pleasanton Senior Center offers more than 25 classes each week, as well as the administration of the Pleasanton Paratransit Program.
Paratransit services provide door-to-door shared ride services for eligible Pleasanton and Sunol residents (60 years of age and older and those that are ADA certified).
On a monthly basis the center also offers free movies, a lecture series, a vision support group, an inter-generational reading program, a computer users group, a Day Trippers program, an armchair travel program, a Newcomer’s Welcome, a dessert dance with a live band, and a lunch downtown.
The Pleasanton Senior Center also partners with agencies and business to provide services that include a weekday lunch program and Meals on Wheels (Spectrum Community Services), health screening and foot care (Senior Support Program of the Tri-Valley), a Caregivers Support Group (Senior Support Program of the Tri-Valley), free notary assistance (Lynne Stein Legal Documents), legal assistance for seniors, tax assistance (through AARP during tax season), AARP Mature Drive classes (offered quarterly), diabetes education (through Alameda County Health Department), a Parkinson’s support group, a quarterly WHEELS transit counselor, and one-on-one computer training.
The Pleasanton Senior Center is located at 5353 Sunol Blvd.
